Golden Leaf Spotlight on Romantic Suspense: Veronica Forand

The annual NJRW “Put Your Heart in a Book” Conference is just over a month away!  To help share our excitement, we’ll shine the spotlight on one of our Golden Leaf finalists each day until the conference.

The Golden Leaf is awarded annually for excellence in romance fiction by authors who are NJRW members or Romance Writers of America (RWA) authors who live in Northeastern U.S. or Canada.  Winners will be announced during the NJRW Put Your Heart in a Book Conference award ceremony on October 14, 2016.

“True Peril” by Veronica Forand (Entangled Publishing)

Before she finished opening the heavy wooden door, she spied Dane. The eyes that could steal a woman’s soul had a different victim in their sights. She was blonde and giggly and built for one-night stands and a stripper pole. Emptiness drained Eve’s lungs, ripping away her ability to breathe. They weren’t married. Not really. They owed nothing to each other. So why did the view in front of her slash into her confidence and beat down her heart?

“Are you in or out? You’re blocking the door,” some college-aged kid said. He pushed her aside, slamming her shoulder into the wall.

Stinging with the pain of rejection and the pain in her arm, she turned to leave, but caught Dane’s gaze on her. Those irresistible eyes seemed devoid of emotion, as though he was trying to block her out of his vision. That caused the knife in her heart to twist even more. She stared at him for a few seconds, waiting for something, even a mere acknowledgment of her existence. Instead he turned his focus back to his beer, away from her and back to the bimbo.
